I suppose I should say "celebrity" (singular). I'm sure tomorrow there will be several blogs with well-written posts regarding the selfish and hateful message rapper/actor Kayne West sent on NBC's Concert for Hurricane Relief. If you want to read more about it, check out Michelle Malkin. Hugh Hewitt also has some helpful things to say regarding the spirit that Americans should assume during this emotion-charged moment in American history.
I had just turned the TV on, and Mike Myers was reading from a teleprompter about the horrors in New Orleans and encouraging viewers to give. Then it was West's turn. I thought there was something strange as I listened to the man stumble and stutter over words. He definitely did not have the steady manner of one reading from a teleprompter. I further thought it strange that NBC would be proclaiming that there is racial discrimination occurring in the aftermath of this hellish nightmare. West said "They're saying black families are looting and white families are just looking for food...they're giving the (Army) permission to shoot us." Excuse me? I was confused. I also thought, "This guy has got to brush up on his reading skills." After further mumbling, it was Myer's turn. He resumed reasonable and rational English verbage; soon it was West's turn again. "George Bush doesn't care about black people." Hello. Chris and I both did a double take. Mike Myers looked pretty uncomfortable, and the camera switched to another speaker.
How completely selfish and low-class to poison something that is meant to promote healing and peace with an obnoxious, irrational, personal opinion. Frankly, I'm sick and tired of "celebrities" thinking that just because someone told them they sing well or act well or whatever they can use their publicity to let the world know what they think. In so doing, they influence many uninformed and ignorant people, and make the rest of us just plain ticked off. But, that's another topic for another post.
Meanwhile, contrary to what Matt Lauer said at the end of the concert, I only hope that it is not "the American Spirit" to spread falsehoods and a spirit of derision and disunity. With the rest of America, I pray that God would bring healing and safety to the victims in the New Orleans area, and justice to those who are looting and doing all manner of violence. I do not understand the entire horror of the situation. I don't think anyone who is not there can. May believers in the United States proclaim the hope and relief that is found only in Jesus Christ - our Sovereign and Powerful SAVIOR - and also use this incredible opportunity to minister to those in need, in all areas.

Hey, I was surprised to hear from you. Nice blog. . . cute kid - glad to hear you guys are all doing well!
Hey Katie!
This is Shyla! I was so glad to sit and read your blog this AM. Your little Lukie is a sweetie! I LOVE HIS HAIR! Nathan and I were pregnant, but the Lord chose to allow me to have a miscarriage at 6 weeks. We are thankful for his Love for us and his provision in our lives! We just bought a house and it is sooooooooo cute!! I too was sickened by the comments that were made by these celebrities. It is interesting to note that when 911 happened, it was "in God we trust" and the nation rallied together for prayer becuase of the terrorism. But, now, b/c Katrina is an "Act of God", there are outcries of rage towards God. "If God was a loving God, he would never have let this happen to us". They shake their fists in the face of God now. Sadly enough, if these people knew that God is merciful b/c he is a loving God, he hasn't wiped up from existence yet! A loving God is who we serve and we are recipients of His immeasurable grace to us. We deserve death and hell. Thank you Lord for not abolishing this truth hating nation.
