Dear Friends,
In the late 1540s, John Knox, imprisoned for his role in the Protestant Reformation, reportedly prayed, “Lord, give me Scotland, or I die.” By the time Knox died in 1572, his native Scotland had been revolutionized. The Scottish Parliament had officially adopted Reformation doctrines and the morals of the nation were transformed. God had answered Knox’s prayer. In fact, some of the very first missionaries who came to America with the gospel were from Scotland.
Today, Scotland, which was once a center of the Reformation and missions, is one of the least churched nations in the world. Some studies have shown that less than three in every one hundred people you meet in Scotland knows Jesus Christ as Savior. Each week three churches close their doors. If this trend continues, by the year 2030, there will be no churches left in Scotland!
In the last several months, God has given us a heart for the people of Scotland, and a door has recently opened for us to be part of a mission team to Scotland this summer! We will be going with Bardstown (KY) Christian Fellowship, leaving on July 6. We will both be assisting Southside Christian Fellowship in Ayr, Scotland with a soccer camp for kids, door-to-door evangelism projects, and teen outreach events during the first week. Katie will return home on the 14th, and Chris will stay for an extra week to help with a Vacation Bible School and other outreach events, and then return home on the 21st. This trip is also a special opportunity for us as we will have a chance to visit Aberdeen, Scotland, and meet with some people from the University of Aberdeen, where Chris is considering studying for a PhD in Biblical Studies. During our time away, Luke will be able to spend lots of quality time with his grandparents.
Please pray for us as we consider the future ministry God might have for us in Scotland.
Would you consider partnering with us? We are seeking to raise a prayer team of 30 people who will commit to pray for us and for the nation of Scotland both before and during our trip. Would you also consider, if you are able, supporting us financially? We have to raise a total of $2200 to pay for the flights and incidental costs. We are trusting that just as God has called us to this ministry he will also provide! No matter how large or how small your gift is it will be a great blessing to us.
Thanks for your support and we look forward to keeping you up to date with our plans in the run up to the trip, during the trip, and letting you know how things went once we get home.
For His Glory,
Chris and Katie Bruno

Wow, Katie! What an incredible opportunity! I've always wanted to visit Scotland. I'll pray as you prepare for your trip. And it's perfectly fine to pray for a convenient washer/dryer, too! :)
Katie,
How exciting for you and Chris. Please know that you both will be on our prayer list! We will pray that the Lord provides the funds for you both to be able to go to Scotland and we will continue to pray for you as you do His work while you are there!!
Katie,
Sounds like a grand opportunity and a second honeymoon of sorts for you two. :) We'll be a-praying for yee both (that's the best e-scottish I can muster). How much $ do you still need?
Alicia
Thanks for all of your prayers.
Karen, if you really want to visit Scotland, you'll have a place to stay with us if you care to come while we're there (roughly fall of '07 - spring of '10). We'd love to have visitors!
Alicia, me thinks it might be wishful thinking to view this as a second honeymoon. :) We are just now getting our letters out and as of now have not raised any outside support. We are also doing a Derby Pie Fundraiser with the rest of the group, and $ I make from a garage sale in May will probably go toward the trip as well. So, we are just beginning to save/raise the money - $2200. We are not worried at all, although May 29 is not far away! God will certainly provide for us! :)
Oops. That last comment is from me, not Chris. I didn't realize he was logged in and not me. :)

How exciting for you both! Tom and i will be praying for your immediate need of money and for your trip.
Missions is a wonderful, enjoyable experience that will make you a different person. I wouldn't trade the time i spent with my parents in russia for anything. It was a huge learning experience and a time of great growth in my walk with Christ.
Katie, It's so great that you guys are heading to Scotland. Drop us an email sometime and I'll fill you in on what's going on with us!
