Lukie was a real trooper this morning. Everything went a-ok with his little surgery. Sadly, he has come down with some sort of stomach bug, which caused him to have, for lack of a better word, the runs yesterday and not really eat much. This caused him to be extremely thirsty (probably a bit dehydrated) this morning before his surgery. He wasn't allowed to have anything to eat or drink after midnight last night. It was a pretty rough 2 hours before he actually got knocked out. On top of that, he had a low-grade fever, which I'm sure made him feel extra poopy. It was hard to see him feel so miserable and not be able to give him any comfort. I didn't think I would cry, but after and hour and a half of waiting at the hospital with him crying and begging for a drink and looking so nervous, I let out a few tears after Chris and I went back to the waiting room. We were just so glad he was in and it would be over soon. He was a tired but content little man when we got him back, especially after he guzzled down his juice in 30 seconds flat. Poor kid.
The nurses and especially the anesthesiologist were really great. The anesthesiologist really made an effort to make Luke comfortable and came by for a few minutes to just play with him. He drew him this picture of the fish saying "Hi Luke." I thought that was pretty impressive.
Luke took about 5 hours of naps today. He seemed to be feeling better this evening - he had a big burst of energy, and we didn't manage to get him to bed until 9:30. Thanks for all of your prayers and for thinking of us!

I'm glad all went well. We'll continue to pray for his recovery and that Lukie won't have any more ear infections!
So glad to hear that it went ok. I was praying for you all and will continue to pray that he gets no more ear infections! It sounds like he had a rough start to the day with a great finish!
It is so hard on mom's isn't it to see our kids go through things like that!?
Good to hear that all is well with Luke!
Pobrecito! My heart goes out to you all. How difficult to not be able to give him anything to drink. When will you see the good results of the surgery? I bet you all enjoyed those 5 hours of naps, eh?
I'm chiming in late, here, but I'm also glad that everything went fine with Luke's surgery!! I agree, it is so hard on us parents to watch our little ones going through stuff like that. Sam had to have hernia surgery when he was 10 weeks old . . . it made me pretty nervous even though it was such a small surgery! I hope Luke is doing well today and that the ear infections will be gone for good. :)
