Simon has been doing so well. He is a very happy and healthy little guy. Actually, make that a happy and healthy BIG guy! When we got back from the holidays, he had his one month check up. He was about 5 weeks old and weighed 11 pounds and 11 ounces. That was an average gain of a pound a week! I guess I wasn't the only one who gained a few extra pounds over Christmas. :) This morning he had his first appointment with WIC (that's another post in and of itself - one that probably will never happen because it will only lead to complaining). He weighed a whopping 13 pounds and 14 ounces and was 24 inches long. He definitely is getting enough to eat; it's a blessing to have a healthy baby!
It has been so much fun to see Simon's personality and see the ways he is alike and different from Luke. I definitely think Simon looks like Luke did when he was a baby. A lot of people don't think so because all they remember about Luke was he abundant, dark and curly hair. Simon doesn't have a ton of hair, and it is lighter - sometimes looking reddish. I would love to have a red-head! :) Simon also has a dimple in his chin - just like his daddy and big brother. Simon has longer arms and legs than Luke did, and I think that he is growing much faster than Luke when he was a baby. Simon has been wearing 3-6 month clothes for a few weeks now! I can't believe that one. Luke never jumped clothes sizes like that. Fortunately, Simon received lots of 3-6 month outfits when he was born.
Like Luke, Simon is a pretty strong little guy and has had really good neck and head control since he was just 3-4 weeks old. Grandma Salesky says Simon is as smart as a whip. He gave his first smile around Christmastime; he was only 3 weeks old, and I'm pretty certain it was not gas. He's a big time smiler now and loves to be talked to. He's definitely a people-person already and likes to be around the action.
Simon doesn't seem to have gotten into a good nap schedule yet - much to my chagrin. Unlike Luke, he is a bit more relaxed and laid back, so I've had to adjust my thinking and plan of action several times. I'm constantly trying to be more laid back myself and not worry about schedule and routine so much. He eats every 3-4 hours in the day and last night slept for about 9 hours! That was the first night he went so long; he had been sleeping 7 hours a night for about a week. This is a BIG blessing to his mama!
Well, that was a whole lot of bragging, but Simon is an exceptional baby! I guess I'm probably a bit partial.
