The Lord gave me a great morning today. Monday and Tuesday were more challenged, so it was a special blessing when Luke's and my morning with my new babysitting charges went smoothly. Yesterday wasn't as grand. And after a frustrating morning on Tuesday, I was ready to go home, crash, and vent my frazzled emotions to my sweet husband. I called him to check if he was on campus or at home; he said he was at home. But, when I got to our duplex and didn't see his car on the street, I began to get a teensy bit worried. Last week we took the key off my ring - for some cursed reason - and have not yet put it on. Did I misunderstand him? My concern increased when I got to the door and it was locked. I admit, I began to panic; I knocked loudly, not pounded, on the kitchen door, hoping that I understood Chris correctly and he was there. He was there. But, in my moment of panic, I must have had one of those adreneline charged moments - the kind when a grandmother can lift a car off of her grandchild - because I broke the window. Terrific. A day later, we still haven't heard back from our landlord.
So you can imagine my relief when we had a great morning today. We arrived back home at 10:20, and Luke was begging to be put in his crib so he could nap. I was planning on taking one myself. Then it hit me. I was locked out of my own house. Why have we not given our neighbors a spare? Why? Better yet, in his haste to get to class on time, Chris did not take his phone. I frantically called several friends that I thought might see Chris. I expect to get about 10 calls back from them later today. Meanwhile, Luke was so tired, he fell asleep in his swing on the porch. He seemed to sleep ok for about 45 minutes. But then he woke up - probably with a kink in his little neck. I was just about to take Luke to Panera for lunch, when our neighbor came over to tell me he got a hold of Chris. Three minutes later, we were all safe inside, Chris very apologetic (although it is not entirely his fault), and Luke in his throne (high chair) happily munching on cheese and cucumbers (which he surprisingly likes). I commented to Chris that it was a good thing that I got locked out on a day when I had a good morning and was in a stable emotional state and not yesterday, for instance. He pointed out that if I had gotten locked out yesterday, I would have been able to reach through the broken window and unlock the door. Funny how that didn't work out.
