It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year . . .

I've been so busy "Christmasing" that it's been hard to sit down and write a few lines for my blog. But, today is a "Snow Day" here in Louisville, and even as a stay-at-home mom, I'm honoring it. :) Louisville got a little snow and sleet last night, so all of the schools are cancelled today. And after a busy day of baking yesterday, it feels good to take a day to relax a little.

This Christmas, I'm really enjoying just being home and having the time to bake, decorate, cook and enjoy special times with Chris and Luke. Even though last year Luke was 5 months old, we were still a bit on the defensive as far as life goes. :) This year I feel stronger, more stable and able to really enjoy the holiday. I'm also focusing on making really special times for our family - just the three of us. I can get into this mode of thinking where I think that some out-of-town family or friends have to come in order to do "holiday" things - make fun food, play games, stay up late watching Christmas movies. This year, it's been fun to have extra time to spend with the two people I love most in the world (and I love a LOT of people!): Chris and Luke. I have to say though, I'm missing playing DB with Janelle and April (LOL).

As you saw in my Thanksgiving pictures, we cut down our tree several weeks ago. We are still enjoying it, but it has not come without the usual tree mishaps that seem to plague us. But hey, what fun would Christmas be without the tree falling over at least once? At least it fell right into my arms (it really did - fell right into me). Poor Luke looks at the tree with caution and suspicion now. (He saw it fall right on me and was worried for his mama.)

Other than being a little fearful of the tree, Luke is really enjoying Christmas. He's recently become really interested in reading all of his books and also enjoys taking ornaments off of the tree and hiding them (I caught him red-handed with this picture). But, his favorite thing to do is to be lifted up to look at the Manger Scene that's on top of the piano. He likes to hold the different figurines and listen as Chris or I talk to him about who each one is. (So cute.)

Even though Chris didn't have classes this week, he has managed to stay pretty busy. He's getting in a lot of extra hours at work, which we're so thankful for.

Well, that's all for now. More Christmas happenings to come!

Christina,

You found me! :) Yes, Luke is my big protector. I'm waiting for him to get old enough to be able to kill spiders for me. :) (Although I don't want him to grow up too fast.) We'll only be in Detroit for about 4 days, but I should be up at least twice in the spring semester - getting ready for the big move there.

Have fun in FL or SC or wherever you are at Christmas. Enjoy Connor's (or do you call him Ace?) first Christmas!

Katie,

Wow, you are making me excited for next year with Chloe! Chloe is just 4 months old now and I'm pretty sure she's clueless about Christmas. Careful with that crazy tree of yours!

You guys are moving to Detroit? What do you have against spiders? :)

Alicia,

We're moving to Detroit temporarily - getting ready for Chris' doctorate studies.

I don't mean to be unkind to our spider friends; they just freak me out. Really, it's silly how scared I am of spiders. I have to work on not passing that phobia on to Luke (so he's not too scared to kill the spiders for me, naturally).
