On My Firstborn's 2nd Birthday

Yesterday was Luke's birthday. I can hardly believe that it two years ago that he was born and our lives changed so wonderfully. Before we had Luke, we used to wonder if we were "ready" to have children - if it was the right time. Could we afford it? Would it be too difficult with Chris still in school? Were we ready for that big change in our lifestyle? There have been times that my sensibilities have rebelled against this change, and in sleep-deprived moments I have not always felt that it was so wonderful. But, at the end of the day, I would rather be worn out from chasing my little curly-head around, kissing his scrapes, pulling the bugs out of his mouth, scrubbing the sand out of his hair and trying to get him to sleep after a fun and sugar-filled day than the boring and well-rested life that I used to lead. Now I have experienced firsthand the truth that children are a blessing from the Lord, and Luke is such a blessing to me because of who he is and because of who I am because I'm his mommy.
